Dawn Patel's work is intuitive.  It is  based on a philosophy that art making is akin to prayer, or a beckoning. When she enters the creative space, she does not presume to know the answer.  It comes to her in the process. The questions have been big, leading her to understand and act in her own life.  Art has become a means of survival for her, not in a monetary way, but in a way that leads to action, growth, understanding and personal responsibility to the spirit in the material world.

She is an advocate for civil, environmental and women's rights and these beliefs carry through in the subject matter of her work not only in her 2 dimensional work but in her clothing line and accessories.  Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and boutiques including the Hardy Gallery, Kohler Arts Center, Museum of Wisconsin Art, and the Trout Museum.
